Stress Awareness Day
Stress Awareness Day
Stress Awareness Day is an important event for Rossborough - as we are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our team.
Stress Awareness Day is an event sponsored by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA), a registered charity that promotes education around stress and the best practices for stress management, wellbeing, and optimum performance. The Centre for Innovative Public Health Research (CIPHR) found that 79% of UK adults feel stressed at least one day a month, and we want to support our employees through times of stress and adversity. We think of ourselves as a considerable employer that removes, not adds to, stress levels.
Stress Awareness Day is traditionally on the first Wednesday in November, a purposeful act as Wednesday is seen as the most stressful and exhausting day of the week at work. The aim is to remind companies that managing stress levels is fundamental in achieving optimum performance. Stress is not something to be ignored on a personal level too. Coined the ‘silent killer’, stress is the root cause of most heart disease and other detrimental health conditions such as hypertension, decreased immunity, hair loss, and decreased mental vitality.
This year, CIPHR has found that lack of sleep and financial worries are the main causes of stress among UK adults. At Rossborough, we are promoting the use of the Mental Health First Aid England interactive stress bucket, and ensuring that everyone is aware where they can find support if they are feeling stressed – to ‘let the water out’.
Alongside this, we are directing employees to support through our fantastic team of Mental Health First Aiders and the launch of our Employee Assistance Programme.
ISMA reiterates that it is scientifically proven that laughing reduces stress. Laughing reduces the onset of stress hormones and triggers the release of endorphins, ‘good’ health-enhancing hormones. So, this Stress Awareness Day, lets acknowledge that although stress can be sometimes unavoidable, it is important to laugh and smile as much as we can in our day-to-day lives.
