Guernsey Raiders take home the trophy as the Siam Cup returns
Jersey Reds and Guernsey Raiders battled it out once again in a contest to claim the historic inter-island Siam Cup trophy – with Guernsey Raiders claiming victory and taking home the trophy.
The Cup, which is the second oldest rugby trophy in the world and the oldest in Channel Islands history, took place across two weekends in a bid to catch up with fixtures lost in 2021 due to the Covid pandemic.
Jersey Reds hosted the first set of fixtures – the 2021 Siam Cup – at the Stade Santander International on Saturday 14 May, and Guernsey Raiders hosted the second – the 2022 Siam Cup – at Footes Lane on Saturday 21 May.
There were three fixtures on 14 May – the Nash Cup for Veterans which kicked off at 10:30am, followed by the Women’s at 12:30pm, and the Men’s at 3pm.
The following week, on 21 May, two fixtures took place – the Women’s at 12pm and the Men’s at 3pm.
Guernsey Raiders took the victory for both the 2021 and 2022 cup. Jersey Reds Women claimed the title for the 2021 cup, with Guernsey Raiders Ladies then securing the 2022 cup.
Rossborough is proud to sponsor both Guernsey Raiders and Jersey Reds Women, and we were rooting for both sides over the course of the competition!
Richard Clarke, Guernsey Managing Director at Rossborough, said: “The Siam Cup is a firm fixture in the Channel Islands calendar, and has been since 1920, so we were very pleased to be in attendance and supporting both Guernsey Raiders and Jersey Reds Women in this long-standing contest.
“Congratulations to Jersey Reds Women for beating Guernsey Raiders Ladies in the 2021 cup – a massive achievement beating them for the first time. On behalf of the whole team at Rossborough, we also send a huge well done to Guernsey Raiders for both of their wins.”
