Getting stuck in at GROW: celebrating our Guernsey team's charity of the year
Throughout 2024, our Guernsey office partnered with GROW as our Charity of the Year. From bake sales to dress-down days, our fundraising efforts have been in full swing, and we were thrilled to wrap up the year with two hands-on volunteer days in November.
On Friday 15th and Friday 22nd, a total of 13 volunteers from across our teams rolled up their sleeves to assist the amazing team at GROW. The weather was kind, and spirits were high as we tackled a range of tasks designed to support their incredible work.
Our activities included tending to flower beds both outdoors and inside the greenhouse, preparing soil for vegetable and flower beds, and cleaning the main workshop area. The highlight of our efforts was building a brand-new compost heap from scratch on a previously unused patch of land at the back of the property, creating a sustainable resource for GROW’s future projects. However, the experience wasn’t just about the tasks we completed—it was also an opportunity to connect with the GROW crew during breaks and lunchtime. Hearing their stories and learning about their vision for the future made the work even more meaningful.
It’s safe to say the two days were a resounding success. Many of our volunteers mentioned how much they enjoyed the experience, with some even planning to use their remaining volunteer days to return and help out individually.
In addition to our time on the ground, the funds raised through our office initiatives, combined with Gallagher’s matching donations, will make a significant contribution to GROW as the year comes to a close.
