Big clash for Jersey Royals RFC

Jersey Royals RFC will be playing its pivotal tie with Burgess Hill on 29th March on the main pitch at Jersey Rugby Football Club, thanks to support from Gallagher.

The team, which was founded in 2016 with the aim of strengthening social rugby in the island, is currently third in the Counties 3 league, with an opportunity to secure promotion this season.

Playing in the Counties 3 league comes at a significant cost, with most fixtures played in the UK and Royals having to cover the costs of their opponents' travel to Jersey. Thanks to support from Gallagher, the club can put on a special “Game Day” at this prestigious venue – playing on the main pitch, which is usually reserved for JRFC’s first team only.

Global insurance broker, Gallagher, which owns Rossborough Insurance locally, has been a supporter of the grassroots game in Jersey for many years, including being the first-ever JRFC Ladies’ team sponsor and now as headline sponsor of the Siam Cup.

“A rugby team is only successful if effective teamwork is at its core – this is a key value at Gallagher and one which is central to our culture. With strong ties to the local community, supporting grassroots rugby is a passion for us. We embrace the fact that we are a global brand, with global reach, but pride ourselves on our long-established local presence and our role as a community broker, supporting the communities in which we operate,” said Group Managing Director, Rossborough and Gallagher Channel Islands and Isle of Man, James Anderson.

"Gallagher’s sponsorship for the big clash with Burgess Hill covers our expenses, including bringing Burgess Hill over to the island, meaning we can pop any profits straight back into our club. Having more funds available ahead of next season will give us the flexibility to book flights as early as possible, reducing these expenses, making the club sustainable for the future,” said Pearse Moloney of Jersey Royals RFC.

“The support from Gallagher comes at a crucial point in the season, we are only two points behind first place, with a game in hand, so our goal is certainly to try and win the league. As it’s such a pivotal game, we are looking to drum up as much support from islanders as we can and having the opportunity to play on the main pitch thanks to Gallagher and JRFC, will help us to do just that. Aside from effort on the pitch, we’re also putting efforts into raising awareness of Royals RFC – it would be great if the result were more new players coming along to train with us.”

Kick off: 14:30pm Saturday 29th March. Entry to the ground is free, no ticket will be required. The clubhouse will be open after the game for drinks.
